Almost every teenager owns a smartphone nowadays, but very few use it to make phone calls. Here is a list which may explain why Millennials don’t like to make calls but would Rather Message.
1. Desperation to avoid Toxicity
That’s the same reason why millennials avoid gatherings which include relatives. In this world of competition, every uncle is praising his son, and every aunt is blabbering about her daughter’s scores. This constant toxicity in the form of “care” is not appreciated by us at all.
2. Written Record
So, on phone calls, you can’t claim what other person said (unless you record it) but texts can be screenshotted and used as proofs and maybe just for fun.
3. Secrecy
We all know the struggle of speaking softly on the phone in public. There is a constant feeling of someone eavesdropping the conversation. Texting is silent and private.
4. Psychology
So, there is this thing with human beings, they learned to write before they learn to speak. So, writing has evolved into typing but the psychology of the written word remains.

5.Time Consumption
Phone calls demand that you take out your time and speak to the other person on spot, and it also leaves no time to think. Time is a great factor why Millennials don’t like to make calls but would rather message. Taking a decision requires time and patience which is a luxury in today’s fast-paced world. Texting gives u ample time to think and respond on the go without having the pressure of another person’s wait.
6. Verbal Confrontation
Millennials are bad at verbal confrontation, let’s be honest. We are bad at saying No and saying no over the phone is more difficult. Texting the word ‘NO’ is way easier.
7. Anxious Generation
Millennials don’t like to make calls but would rather message also can be a result of anxiety. The millennial generation has been dubbed as the generation with the highest rate of mental health issues, hence a phone call from an unknown number is enough to freak them out. However they are not scared of texts from an unknown number, because texts come with the content, but phone calls have a sense of mystery.
8. Our own Pace
Texting allows us to take decisions at our own pace and time. Also, it is easier to avoid unnecessary people over text. Just press the mute button or in worse case ‘Block’.
9. New Generation, New Manners
These days it is a prevalent trend to send emails for formal communication rather than phone calls. Millennials have so many ways to communicate with others than making a phone is now treated as a luxury and a sign of manner. You do not call anyone all of a sudden unless it is very necessary. New generation, new norms.
10. Avoiding the Small Talk
Texting eliminates the process of small talk that happens over the phone. This enhances work efficiency. Texts are generally to the point and short and can be seen in a few seconds. However, a phone call made for the same work will require more time. This is one more reason why Millennials don’t like to make calls but would rather message.
These points may look very unnecessary to the previous generation, but it applies word by word for the millennials. Millennials grew up in a completely different world than the previous generations, hence there lifestyle and mindset is definitely going to be different.
