So many people have very less knowledge about STDs. So today we present few common STDs in men that you need to know. Many of these STDs although being common do not show signs or symptoms. So here are 5 common STDs that you didn’t know.

1. Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is quite common STD in both men and women. It doesn’t show any symptoms in early stages. Symptoms are very rare in men, but may be like itching on the penis, painful urination, and urge to urinate frequently. But do not worry, Trichomoniasis can be easily treated. Usually it is cured by a dose of antibiotics. Do keep in mind that you can get  re-infected with Trichomoniasis within three months of being treated.

2. Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is bacterial infection, and just like Trichomoniasis it doesn’t show any symptoms in early stages. Symptoms may involve pain or burning sensation while urination, discharge from the penis, or testicular pain. It is also possible for gonorrhea to spread within the body and cause rash, infection in throat, joint pain etc. Gonorrhea is treated by giving antibiotics in the form of injections or tablets.

3. HIV

Human Immunodeficiency Virus is the most popular STD. Over time it causes AIDS which is Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. Symptoms include  fever, rash, sore throat, and swollen lymph nodes. The This is more common gay men because they have anal sex. Worst part about this STD is it deteriorates your immune system and any minor disease can turn into into a major disease such as cancer, pneumonia, dementia etc. There is no cure for HIV but there are medicines that can prevent the progress of the illness.

4. Zika virus

Not much known STD but quite common. Zika virus is not just transmitted by sexual contact with infected person, transmission also occurs by the bite of an infected mosquito. Zika virus can be transferred from infected mothers to babies, which can be very harmful for them as it kills developing brain cells. Symptoms include  fever, rash, conjunctivitis and headaches There is no cure for this STD, infected people are advised to take rest and plenty of fluids and cure their fever through common medicines.

5. Genital herpes

Genital herpes are caused by herpes simplex viruses (HSVs). Symptoms include uclers around genitals, fever and swollen lymph nodes. You get painful blisters and sores in your reproductive tract. There are two types, HSV type 1 causes cold sores around the mouth, and HSV type 2  causes genital herpes, but both types infect the genital area. Even when symptoms have occurred in the past, it is possible to transmit the infection during any period in which symptoms are not present. There is no cure for herpes as such but medicines like acyclovir, famciclovir, and valacyclovir can manage outbreaks.

STDs are more common than you think. It is completely alright if you have STD. Your life doesn’t end there. Please do not shy and get checked when you have even if you feel like you have any one of the symptoms. As you have seen that most of the STDs do not have very obvious symptoms.
