In India UPSC is considered one of the toughest entrance exams and is indeed the toughest. People dedicate years for preparation and still only few get selected. Clearly UPSC is not everyone’s cup of tea. But N C Madhu showed that if you truly want something and work hard enough to achieve it you can accomplish whatever you want. Here’s the inspiring story of a bus conductor N C Madhu who cleared UPSC.
Madhu is only 29 years old now. He is the only guy in his family who got education, but had to stop in between so that he could earn for his family and support them. So he became a bus conductor when he was 19. But he didn’t lose his hope and passion. Meanwhile earning for his family, he completed his graduation and post-graduation through distance learning. He studied for 5 hours each day after working tirelessly in the bus for UPSC.
I always wanted to achieve something big in life. I started working early to support my family but that did not stop me from studying further. Studied for 5 hours a day. My subjects were Ethics, Political Science, Maths and Science. I would study every day, before and after work. I would also wake up at 4 am and finish my studies before proceeding to work.
Seeing his unbreakable determination his boss, C Shikha, the managing director of BMTC helped him. She is an IAS officer and is currently helping Madhu prepare for the upcoming interview. His path to clearing UPSC wasn’t filled with roses, he faced failures quite a lot of times. He appeared for the Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS) exams in 2014 but failed and also in 2018 also, he couldn’t clear UPSC. But as they say “koshish karne waalo ki haar nahi hoti”. Madhu never gave up and finally passed with flying colours. He is about to give exam this march and we wish him all the very best.
