The first half of this year has been pretty impressive for Bollywood. Content-wise many of the films packed some major punch. Films like Uri, Gully Boy, Article 15 set the benchmark for what new-age Bollywood films should look like. They were splendid in terms of content and they did very well at the box office as well showing that audiences of today are ready to see movies where content is the hero. On the other hand biggies like Kalank and Student of the Year 2, which were expected to do great at the box office performed much below expectation and they couldn’t create half the impact that they would have liked.

The second half of the year looks promising enough with a mixed bag which contains both content-oriented film as well as mainstream films meant for mass entertainment. Let’s look at the upcoming films of the year which will hopefully create a mark at the box office.
Judgemental Hai kya
This film has had a long journey. Initially, it was supposed to star Imran Khan and Kangna Ranaut in the lead and the film was supposed to be called “Mental”. But later Imran khan was replaced by Rajkumar Rao and it was renamed as “Judgemental hai Kya?” The trailer of the film is quirky and outlandish, to say the least. It promises to be quite unconventional and entertaining and with Kangna and Rajkumar in the leads, the least we can expect is an amazing performance, acting-wise.
Super 30
Super 30 is a drama film based on the life of mathematician Anand Kumar and his educational program Super 30. The programme basically included supporting and encouraging the education of 30 underprivileged kids. The film stars Hrithik Roshan in the lead as Anand Kumar. The trailer of the film has received a mixed response with many pointing the stereotypical depiction of Biharis and their accent. Despite the criticism, the film has aroused enough curiosity and it is expected to do pretty well at the box office.
Panipat
Panipat is a historical period drama film about what led to the ‘Third Battle of Panipat.’ The film has been directed by Ashutosh Gowariker who is known for his finesse in creating historical dramas. The film stars Arjun Kapoor (Sadashiv Rao Bhau), Sanjay Dutt (Ahmad Shah Abdali), Kriti Sanon (Parvati Bai), Padmini Kolhapure (Gopika Bai), Mohnish Bahl (Balaji Baji Rao) and Rekha (Sakina Begum) in key roles. The film has aroused significant curiosity regarding the looks of the actors in the film. Hopefully, these expectations would get converted into positive numbers at the box office.
Good News
Starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Diljit Dosanjh, Kiara Advani, this film is expected to release in the last month of the year. Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor have come together on the silver screen on a number of occasions and they have an undeniable chemistry. Akshay Kumar has stated that the film will be “dramedy”- which is basically an amalgamation of drama and comedy. Akshay Kumar and comedy, do we actually need to say more?
Bramhastra
Again slated to release in the last month of the year, the film starts love birds Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt and that alone is enough to arouse enough expectations. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Dimple Kapadia. It has been directed by Ayan Mukherjee and we will see Ranbir Kapoor possessing some kind of supernatural power in the movie. Shut up and take our money already.
So with that many amazing movies lined up in the second half of the year, it is about time we start saving up already.
