Animation changed the way movies were perceived and it all started with a man in Paris working behind a white cloth. Animated movies are great and viable for people of all ages contrary to popular belief. People have this idea that animated movies are only for children, well some are, but there are plenty of animated movies out there capable to make even the toughest man cry his heart out or make them feel joyed and loved.
Here some animated flicks to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon with hot chocolate:
Ratatouille
A beautifully directed flick with even a more beautiful message behind it. This is the one film that is guaranteed to put you in a good mood no matter what. A mesmerizing narrative which revolves around Remy, a rat who wants to be a cook, and how he follows his one goal in life forming uncanny relations that will be with him forever. Some might even say that this is a metaphor for life. If you are a fan of good food and brilliant animation this is a must watch. Also, the cooking scenes satisfy you to your core.
Grave Of The Fireflies
We can’t talk about animation without talking about Japan. This Studio Ghibli film will make you feel the love between the two siblings who are left to themselves after their parents die in the second world war. This movie will make you smile, laugh and sob altogether. The fact that it is based on a real story makes you think of what war does to people. Setsuke will make you smile innocently and then make you ugly cry and leave you devastated.
The Lion King
This all-time classic movie is a roller coaster of emotions, which leaves you with a lot of important messages about life. A Disney retelling of Shakespeare’s Hamlet which takes you on a journey to the jungle. The character will stay with yourself for most of your life, and I can easily call it one of the most re-watchable movies of all time. Repeat with me guys,” Hakuna Matata”.

Coco
One of the most heartfelt movies of this time. Coco tells the story of a boy who is running after one thing in life i.e to be a singer. That takes him on a journey of self-discovery and also gets to know that not everything that glitters is gold. It also makes us realize the way the importance of memories and to cherish and love everyone. The music of this movie shines on its own and will get you tapping your feet and clapping your hands.
Toy Story 3
All the Toy Story franchise is so close to my heart and most probably all the other people my age. This was one of the few franchises which got better as it progressed on. But, where the third one stands out is the other two didn’t make people cry or just me and Chris D’Elia when the toys are holding hands. The concept of Andy leaving and Woody and the toys finding their purpose is also really heartwarming.
Wall-E
As we get more and more close to ignoring climate change, this movies is becoming more relevant. This story of a robot alone on a dystopian Earth, which has huge piles of garbage dumped on it by people, s so cheerful and romantic that it makes you feel for the world. Wall-E is a story about love and how it can find you in the most unusual places. It also makes us think about how we are decimating this beautiful planet of ours.
Up
Don’t trust people who didn’t cry at the first 10 minutes of Up. This movie will make you feel alive than you ever did. Adjectives aren’t enough to describe the feeling this movie put you into. The relationship between Russel and Carl is bound to remind you of your grandparents. Pixar always delivers and with this beautifully crafted film, hey completely blew us out of the park and landed us right at the top of paradise falls.
Spirted Away
Another Ghibli, this is one of the contentful film ever made. It is ever so beautiful and full of childlike innocence while simultaneously portraying complex characters like the “greedy” monster No-face or the parents of Chihiro who couldn’t stop themselves from eating like pigs. It is a really bizarre film but what keeps it together and makes it work is the innocence of the characters.
Iron Giant
Before Brad Bird made one of the most loved films, The Incredibles, he made this masterpiece of a film which according to me is one of the best family movies ever made. This movie is full of heart and also creatively satisfying. It relates to the younger crowd yet reaches to the older crowd on a whole different level. It is considered to be one of the most powerful superhero movies ever made
Charlotte’s Web
This child book turned into a movie is about an adorable pig raised on a farm to be slaughtered and eaten one day. The movie explores themes of love and friendship about Charlotte the spider, Wilbur the pig, Fern the little girl and the farm animals. This brings your belief back in the true form of love i.e friendship.
